Skin pH Factor (Acidity and Alkalinity)
The pH (potential hydrogen) of the acid mantle (the skin's
protective barrier of sweat and oil) varies between 4.5 and
6.2. The normal pH balance is 5.5.
Your pH level is important because the pH factor of the skin
works as a defense by fighting certain forms of bacteria and
germs. When your pH level is too low or too high,
inflammation occurs.
The pH level is measured on a scale of 0 to 14. The pH of a
product relates to the degree of acidity or alkalinity.
- Product that are acidity have a pH level below 7.0.
The lower the pH level, the greater degree of acidity.
- Alkalis are products that have a pH level above 7.0.
The higher the pH level, the greater the degree of
alkalinity.
